Gabrielle Union Condemns Disney For Not Publicly Standing Against Florida ‘Don’t Say Gay Bill’, Says : You Should Not Fund Hate And Oppression. Period.

Gabrielle Union is disapproving of her Disney employer’s recent political stance.

On a promotional run for her upcoming Disney+ series, the “Cheaper By The Dozen” actress spoke candidly about Disney execs handling of Florida’s LGBTQ+ legislation.

Gabrielle Union,49, has always come to the defense of the LGBTQ community, especially after her stepdaughter Zaya Wade’s gender transition. So one can imagine her disappointment when her Disney employers failed to publicly stand against Florida’s recent “Don’t Say Gay Bill”, which limits the discussion of the gay and transgender identity in classrooms. When asked her thoughts on the matter, she stated:

“Somebody asked me, ‘Are you disappointed?’ I’m disappointed when my order isn’t right at In-N-Out. I don’t even think that’s a word that you could use for something like this, where children’s lives are literally hanging in the balance. We need to own that if you truly are taking stands against hate and oppression, you should not fund hate and oppression. Period. The damage is done.”

Instead of taking an early public statement against the legislation, Disney officials had reportedly been working behind the scenes with Florida lawmakers “to achieve a better outcome,” with no success – despite “longstanding relationships with those lawmakers,” according to Disney CEO Bob Chapek. The bill was passed by the state’s House of Representatives on Feb. 24 and the state Senate in early March – and also prompted a walk-out protest by Disney employees.

The “Think Like A Man” star continued her grievances, explaining that without large influential corporations taking stance against such bills, they will continue to negatively impact the lives and freedom of young children, stating:

“There are so many states that are following suit [with Florida’s legislation], because there is no pushback, because no one in positions of power [or] corporations are taking a hard stance. Let’s look who’s donating to what and let’s call people out… We have to campaign and fund for those people who stand for all of us.”

Gabrielle also noted that despite being willing to advocate for her stepdaughter Zaya, all trans children deserved to be protected and stood up for – not just famous ones:

“If you have to see my child for that to be to be the difference maker, that’s not enough. There’s a lot of kids out there, not just famous ones.”
